Before vs After Becoming Parents

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much our lives have changed since becoming parents. The obvious one is we have a little human to look after, but there is so much than that. There’s the little things that have changed. Although they may seem annoying I would never change any of them, as they’re just a daily reminder of just how lucky we are to have Oliver. I thought I’d write a little fun comparison between what our lives were like before becoming parents and what our lives are like now.

Waking Up In The Morning

We’d set our alarms each night and would wake up to that annoying ‘Beep beep’ coming from our phones. But at the weekend we’d be able to get a nice long lie in!

Every single day we get woken up between the hours of 5am and 8am to a baby either crying, chatting to himself or even screaming. We don’t need to set our alarms anymore!

Getting Into Our Bath

We’d step into our bath and our foot would touch straight onto the base of the bath. We could then grab our shampoos, conditioners and shower gels without accidentally picking up the wrong one.

Before we get in the bath we have to clear all of the bath toys out so we actually have room to move around. There’s so many products to choose from – I’m surprised that my frequent tiredness hasn’t caused me to wash my hair with a child’s bubble bath.

Eating Dinner

We’d be able to cook what ever we wanted for dinner, sit down at the table and just eat.

We have to specially choose what to eat hoping that our child likes it (which often he doesn’t!). When at the dinner table we have to make sure our child is eating before we can touch ours – Or the screaming will come!

We’d be able to hoover without having to move too much stuff out of the way. Sometimes it would take a minute or so to clear anything on the floor.

It now takes us longer to clear the floor from toys, books, clothes or even sneaky bits of food (hidden by our child…) than it does to actually hoover.

Going Out For The Day

We’d just need to pack our phones, purse/wallet and a few things to keep us going throughout the day.

We need to pack the changing bag with 100’s of nappies, wipes, spare clothes, food, drinks, creams, more nappies, nappy bags, tissues… You name it, it goes in there.

Personal Space

We had all of the personal space we could have asked for. Everything that we owned was ours only.

Personal space doesn’t exist, not even in the bathroom. Everything that we own is now our sons, forever.

I hope you liked this fun comparison of before and after becoming parents. Of course I blooming love every single one of these, even the no more personal space – There’s something so cute loving and adorable about having this little person wanting to be with you always. What sort of things have changed in your lives since becoming a parent? Let me know in the comments below!

I totally agree about personal space. Haha, I can’t even go to the bathroom in peace anymore. 😀

Every single one of these things is spot on. Also I used to take a solo toilet trip for granted. And showers. I also never set an alarm anymore ? what a luxury! I wouldn’t change it for a second, but the odd lie-in would be very welcome! Also now if I want a cup of tea, I tend to make it with Dougie on my hip as he enjoys watching, and then it tends to be lukewarm/ice cold by the time I actually get round to drinking it!
Also since having a Dougie a simple “would you like to go for dinner” invite has turned into “right well we need to fit it around dougies bedtime or one of us will have to leave with him and whoever does the night, the other does the morning” kind of bargaining! ???
