Nathan and I have always loved going to the zoo together. Whenever we go on holiday we always have a zoo or two planned to visit. Last weekend we went to Colchester Zoo with Oliver. The zoo is only about 30 minutes down the road from us and we’ve been so many times. I grew up going to this zoo. I couldn’t possibly count how many times I’ve visited Colchester Zoo! I’ve written about Colchester Zoo before in this post too.
I did plan to bring my camera so I could take some really nice photos of the animals but the weather was terrible. It was chucking it down when we got into the car. We honestly didn’t even know if we were going to go in the zoo but the weather cleared up by the time we arrived.

Out of all the photos we took on our phones during the day, this has to be my favourite. At Colchester Zoo there is a tunnel that goes through the sea lion’s enclosure, and you can also walk around it to see under water. It was late in the day so it was rather quiet, so we thought it was the perfect time to let Oliver loose and have a run around. He went right up to the glass to watch the sea lions and it was so cute! He very delicately stood there watching the sea lions swim by and he looked so happy. I thought it was the perfect opportunity for a photo, and I was even lucky enough to have a sea lion swimming in the background!
I now have a season pass to Colchester Zoo so be ready to see a lot more photos of Oliver at the zoo. We already have our next trip planned to go with Oliver’s Auntie and Uncle which we can’t wait for. We’ll be going in December when they’ll have Reindeer!
Have you ever visited Colchester Zoo? If you’re ever in the area and love zoo’s I’d really recommend taking a visit. There is so much to see and do – it’s a full day’s worth! For previous Living Arrows posts, click here!
