Stay-in Date Night Ideas

Life can get on top of you sometimes, especially when doing the same thing day to day. If you’re anything like my husband and I it’ll be weeks, sometimes months, until we realise that it’s been a while since we’ve had a date night. Thing is though sometimes there just isn’t enough hours in the day to go out for a date night. We love going out for meals together but there is so much that comes with it; getting dressed up (which can take me a fair while!), arranging a baby sitter, finding a place to go to and actually getting out of the house. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine doing these so we can go out, but sometimes we just don’t feel like leaving the house. It was a couple of years ago when we decided we’ve have stay-in date nights.

Stay-in date nights are perfect for us. We love having cozy nights in together, we don’t have to arrange a baby-sitter and we can pretty much do what we want. It’s lovely! There are so many dates you can create at home. Here are some of my favourites.

Pizza making

This one is perfect for two. I think it’s pretty darn cute making pizzas with your other half. You can add whatever toppings you’d like, and whilst it’s cooking you can snuggle on the sofa together with a glass in hand.

Play games together

We do this one quite a lot. My husband and I are big gamers so we love to spend a night watching and playing games together. Our recent game to play together is Crash Bandicoot, but after a while that gets stressful! We also love to play board games when we want a technology free evening.

Indoor Picnic

My husband surprised me with this a few years ago when we’d just moved in together. It was the cutest thing! He’d set out a picnic mat and had bought lots of food. We both just sat on the floor eating and drinking together. It was the best! Probably my favourite stay-in date night we do.

Candle lit dinner

Just because you’ve stayed in doesn’t mean you can’t have a romantic candle lit dinner! You can even do it in your PJs – who cares! It’s your home! We love having a take away with a candle burning in our PJs.

Start a journal/scrapbook together

This is one I’d love to do with my husband. I just don’t think he’s quite up for the idea yet. We do spend lots of evenings talking about travel plans or our future, I’m just the one who writes it all down!

Watch movies

Pick out a few of your favourite movies, make some popcorn and then sit down and watch them all whilst eating and snuggling under a blanket. Sounds perfect to me!

Dipping chocolate

Sometimes all you need is chocolate. Melt some chocolate in a bowl, grab some fruit, marshmallows or whatever you want and dip them in the chocolate. My husband and I once did this whilst snuggled in bed and it was the best!

Unplug everything and just talk

It’s pretty safe to say that technology is a huge part of most of our lives. I’m definitely guilty of this! Sometimes unplugging and turning all technology off and just talking to each other can be magical.

These are just some of my favourites, but you really can create whatever sort of stay-in date night you’d like. Have you ever had a stay-in date night? Let me know if you have and what you love to do!

The unplugging everything and just talk is a great idea for date night. I think too often we all just spend time talking but with a device in front of our faces! x

These are such lovely ideas! It’s so important to make time for each other, especially when you have a baby! We tend to just slump onto the sofa, mindlessly watching TV, but I wish we could actually do things together. I love the idea of unplugging, that’s definitely something I need to do more of, and the indoor picnic is such a cute idea!
    Hels xx

We love playing video games together, but have kind of run out of ones to play lately?! A lot of people tend to turn off their technology, but I find that super difficult haha, we can only deal with turning off our phones. My fave is the scrapbooking idea, definitely going to try this but I bet it seems much more romantic in my head than it truly is hahaha.
