This fathers day is my husband Nathans first as a Daddy, and I was super excited to make this a good one. I had a few plans but I wanted something else to give that extra touch to make the month a special one, so that’s when bakerdays came to the rescue! I was contacted by bakerdays who asked whether I wanted to review one of their cakes for fathers day, and after looking on their website I thought it was the perfect extra touch I was looking for.
bakerdays is the home for letterbox cakes. They have a range of cakes that you can personalise for your occasion and can be delivered straight through your letterbox. For them to fit in your letter box they obviously need to be small, so the suggested serving is for 3-4 people, which is perfect for a mini celebration with a loved one. Don’t think because they’re small they won’t taste as good because, my gosh, ours was delicious! They don’t only bake letterbox cakes, they also make party cakes and cupcakes too, and you also have the option to add balloons and candles to your order. If you order your cake by 2pm, you’ll get next day delivery – perfect for any last minute celebrations!
On to our celebration! The cake was delivered in a box that fit perfectly through our door. Nathan wasn’t home at the time so I opened it up to have a look to make sure everything came through okay, which it did. I asked for the ‘my daddy rocks’ cake with a lemon filling and ‘love from Oliver xxx’ written on it. In the box were my order details, the cake in a gorgeous looking tin (which I am most definitely keeping!), candles, balloons, a party blower and some extra little bits and pieces for me to read through. Of course I dived straight in for the tin containing the cake. I wanted to eat it there and then! It looked amazing and smelt delicious!
I, of course, waited till Nathan was free so we could have a mini early fathers day celebration with our son, Oliver. As soon as we could I surprised Nathan with the cake and we dived straight into it. I let Nathan cut the first piece and try it and I’ve never seen him enjoy a piece of cake as much as this! Nathans not usually the biggest cake lover. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he loves cake, but will choose other desserts over it, but he said it himself that this cake was gorgeous and he was dying for another bit. I made sure I got a bit before Nathan went in for another, and I absolutely loved it. We even let Oliver try a bit and of course he loved it too!
Do you think someone is looking jealous in that photo?! The next two photos are of Nathans reaction to the cake. At this point I was desperate to try a bit – my mouth is even watering just writing this!
You can just see by Olivers face that we wanted to munch down on it, so we gave him a bit of sponge and that was gone within seconds of it being in his mouth!
Can you tell he liked it?!
The cake itself was honestly gorgeous. I’m so glad I chose a lemon drizzle filling. The cake was so moist (so sorry to everyone who hates that word but I couldn’t think of a better word!!) and lemony.
This review, as always, it’s an honest review, even if the cake was gifted, but I can honestly say, I will be buying a cake from bakerdays in the future. I loved how it’s the perfect size to fit through your letterbox and it was still packed full of flavour. Being able to personalise the cake is such a lovely touch to it. They have so many variations you can choose from for so many occasions.
We did have a quick play with the balloons too!
