Baby Update

I’m back from my blogging break so I thought it was time for an update! I’m sorry for being away for so long – having a baby is pretty time consuming! My son, Oliver, is now 11 weeks old and time has flown by. Oliver now gurgles, smiles and sucks his thumb (or his whole hand!). We even took Oliver on a family holiday to Florida recently!

As it’s been so long since I’ve blogged and spoken about my son, I thought I’d update you all with how he’s doing.

Happy Baby!

This photo was taken a few days ago at nearly 11 weeks old. He’s nearly the size of the changing mat already! He also has the most gorgeous smile. He’s such a happy baby, always smiling at everyone. My Dad commented that he’s never seen such a happy baby, so it’s very heart-warming to know our son is so happy.

Let’s just say we’ve been so lucky with Oliver and his sleeping pattern. From the age of 8 weeks old Oliver has managed to sleep for 7 hours straight. Because of this we’re actually getting a good nights sleep! I shouldn’t get used to this though as I’m sure this may change soon! He likes to fidget in the night as he turns 90 degrees and will be sideways when he wakes up!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to continue breastfeeding. Oliver was born with tongue-tie and it wasn’t corrected quick enough to carry on breastfeeding. He got too hungry to keep on trying breastfeeding so we had to give him a bottle. Because we had to stay in hospital for a week we weren’t able to visit the tongue-tie professional to get it cut, which is such a shame as I really wanted to breastfeed, but Oliver needed food and I don’t regret giving him formula one little bit. A fed baby is a happy baby after all!

Smiley Oliver

As I mentioned before, we took Oliver with us on a family holiday to Florida. This was definitely a challenge but a fun one. Oliver was a little angel on the plane and was perfect the whole holiday. I was so nervous before going as I was scared something was going to happen to him whilst we were away. To tell the truth it’s me things happened to (a few infections and a deaf ear!). You can probably guess because we went to Florida we visited the Disney parks and Universal parks. Oliver slept a lot through each day at the parks but he did get to go on a few rides; The Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride and It’s a Small World at Magic Kingdom and the Safari trip at Animal Kingdom. I’m pretty sure he loved each ride. He even got to meet Chewbacca and 2 Jawa’s at Disney Hollywood Studios!

I’ve started taking Oliver to Sensory classes which involves using colours, sounds, lights and objects to help him develop, learn and use his senses. He seems to love the classes and I love taking him to them. It’s great to meet other mums and babies there too. Next week I’m taking Oliver to his first swimming lesson which I’m super excited for, so fingers crossed he enjoys it too! I always try to keep Oliver simulated through play, light and colours when he’s awake so he can develop well. It seems to be going very well so far as he’s a very intelligent baby in our eyes!

We are so lucky to have an amazing loving baby, and I’m even luckier to have such a supportive husband – I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him! We love our son very much and we wouldn’t change him for the world.
