As of today I am 37 weeks and 3 days pregnant and all I can say is: I am ready to give birth! Things are seriously getting uncomfortable now and I cannot wait to meet our little man. There is a point in most pregnancies when the woman starts to try ways to bring the labour on a bit, and I have hit that wall hard! But do these things really bring on labour?!
In the next week or so I am slowly going to start doing a few things to see whether they help speed things up a bit. They’re all probably myths that don’t work what so ever, but hey, doesn’t hurt to try! Here is what I’ve been told can help.
Pineapple – After researching into this a bit, as I was curious to how Pineapple can actually help, apparently the enzyme Bromelain is in Pineapple, and if you eat lots of it it’s meant to soften your cervix and help speed up labour. But lots of women have said they’ve not noticed it help and you’d have to eat lots for it to actually work. But I guess eating the occasional Pineapple can’t hurt, especially when it’s hot as it’s quite a refreshing fruit!
Spicy Food – It’s my birthday next week and my family and I are going to a Thai restaurant where I plan to have quite a spicy meal! Apparently the spicy food is meant to stimulate your stomach which then prompts your womb into action. Again, whether this will actually work or not I have no idea, but Thai is my favourite cuisine and I quite like spicy food, so it doesn’t hurt to try!
Doing the dirty deed! – Yes guys. Apparently the dirty deed can bring on labour. This one does actually make sense however! Doing the dirty deed produces the hormone Oxytocin which is meant to help. I don’t know the science behind how Oxytocin helps, but we don’t need to go into this one here… *Winking Face*
My husband has just informed me that Oxytocin is the hormone that causes contractions, so makes sense how it helps 😉
Walking – Known as ‘walking the baby out’, apparently doing lots of relaxing walking encourages the baby to move down to therefore help him/her out. Issue with this one is that walking is so uncomfortable now because of how big/heavy I am! But when I do lots of walking around I definitely notice he’s moved further down as the urge to pee becomes worse!
Bumpy Car Rides – I think this one works in a similar way to walking by bouncing the baby down. Being in a car is so uncomfortable for me at the moment so I think I’ll stick to lots of walking!
These are just a few things I may attempt to do over the next few weeks, depending on how I’m feeling of course!! If you’ve ever been pregnant, did any of these help you, or do you have your own ideas that helped you speed up labour? I’d love to hear them, I’m willing to give anything a go!
